Endowed Chair in Pediatric Diabetes Research

Job Description

The Chair holder will be a faculty member appointed in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology, in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. Requirements: applicants must have a clinical degree (MD, DO, MD/PhD, MBBS), be eligible for academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and be board eligible or certified in Pediatric Endocrinology. The Chair holder will dedicate significant effort to advancing basic, translational or clinical diabetes research within the section and enhance the cooperative research efforts aligned with the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center (BBDC). Preference will be given to a clinical researcher who has expertise and a special interest in the use of technology in diabetes management, such as advanced insulin delivery systems and AI. It is anticipated that the Chair holder will have a leadership role within the BBDC to advance pediatric clinical care and align research efforts with clinical care. There is also an option for a clinic administrative position within BBDC. The Chair will report to the Pediatric Endocrinology Division chief and the Director of the BBDC. 

 

The Pediatric Endocrinology division is currently staffed with a team of five pediatric endocrinologists and two Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. The division is part of the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center which includes a pediatric endocrinology clinic, adult endocrinology clinic and an outpatient diabetes education facility. In addition to clinical care, the division is actively involved in translational and basic research, and it houses the Barnstable Brown Pediatric Diabetes Research laboratory.

The selected candidate will provide clinic based and remote patient care to children and adolescents. The faculty member will serve as an attending physician for the pediatric endocrinology service, supervising a team of students and residents, to provide on-call coverage. In addition, this position will also contribute to the education of future physicians by supervising students and residents assigned to pediatric inpatient and outpatient services.
